At our monuments of industrial heritage, you can explore a time when South Wales was the mining capital of the world with underground tours at the Rhondda Heritage Park and Big Pit Mining Museum. Big Pit, along with a heritage railway and community heritage museum are located is the small town of Blaenavon, which along with its surrounding landscape is now a World Heritage Site. The attractions give an insight into living and working conditions in South Wales during the Industrial Revolution.

Looking to the future, there’s Techniquest in cosmopolitan Cardiff Bay – the ‘hands on’ science centre that challenges minds and makes discovery fun. In contrast, a few miles outside Cardiff you’ll find Caerphilly Castle the largest Castle in Wales. The fortress sprawls over 30 acres and makes a magnificent centre piece for the town of Caerphilly. Historic Tredegar House on the outskirts of Newport is one of the finest examples of a 17th Century Charles 11 Mansion in Britain and with its splendid gardens it hosts a number of events throughout the year. More recently, the significant discovery of a magnificent medieval shop which is now being restored for display is testimony to Newport’s past importance as a port.

Children will also enjoy Greenmeadow Community Farm located in the flourishing town of Cwmbran. Nearby there is also the Monmoutshire and Brecon Canal – great for a gentle stroll; and a reservoir where there are activities available such as sailing and fishing.
For children who enjoy nothing more than letting off steam in the great outdoors choose from pony trekking in the Wye Valley and cycling the Celtic Trail to exploring our wonderful beaches and parks.
