Dewstow Golf Club
DEWSTOW GOLF CLUB, with it’s two splendid eighteen-hole courses (the Valley and the Park), is a wonderful example of how, with special care and attention to detail, rough and bumpy farmland can be created into a top class, thriving golf complex within just over a decade of planning permission being granted. Situated just five miles west of the oldest of the two Severn Bridges (M48), and off the A48 at Caerwent, you will discover on arrival that the Valley course is the new course favoured by a lot of visitors by virtue of it being the oldest established of the two. Nevertheless, the excellent Park Course is an equally challenging test of one’s scoring ability. A special feature on this course is a huge and magnificent wooden “Totem Pole” carved in situ from a dead Sequoia tree. Lenghthwise the two courses are similar, the Valley being 6091 yards (par 72) and the park at 6147 yards. Both have water features, troublesome trees and doglegs to negotiate, and some nasty short holes to overcome. Dewstow also has a 26 bay driving range to add to the visitor’s entertainment, whilst the splendidly appointed clubhouse has the added attraction of an excellent award winning restaurant.
